For now it appears as if Ilya Kovalchuk is playing tonight against the Rangers. Ilya would not however discuss the specifics of last nights benching against Buffalo. So, for now Devils fans can breathe somewhat of a sigh of relief. The Rangers will go with Henrik Lundqvist in net tonight and Matt Gilroy and Mike Sauer are the 3rd defensive paring. Jeremy Williams will likely play in place of Todd White.
We will see if last night's scratching will have an effect on the rest of the Devils team, which was a mess against Buffalo. Still regardless of the result tonight or the Devils problems this season thus far, there will still be many questions about last nights surprise scratching of Ilya Kovalchuk. Most of these questions will probably never be answered unless someone opens up about it. Based on everything I have heard thus far, Lou Lamoriello had a little input into MacLean's decision last night.
