If the Devils are going to get out of the major early season funk, they will have to do it on this Western Conference Road Trip. They will play all three California teams, the Vancouver Canucks and defending champion Chicago Blackhawks. Certain players like Patrik Elias, Jason Arnott, Dainius Zubrus, David Clarkson and team captain Jamie Langenbrunner have to step up offensively, which so far is being run by Zach Parise and Ilya Kovalchuk.
Most Devils probably cannot wait til the start of November, a month which will likely make or break the Devils. If they can win 3 or 4 of these games, I think they will go on a roll and reestablish their dominance in the Eastern Conference just in time to get players back from injury. Its very likely that Lou Lamoriello will have to make a trade in November once players like Brian Rolston and Bryce Salvador are ready to return from injury to clear up cap space. For now Devils fans should not panic, because I know if the Devils can break out offensively, it will be a good season. I think they are close. The biggest key for me is to have the Devils win a game where they trail by a goal or two, its these types of wins from which the team can gain confidence to overcome adversity.
