Devils eaten by Sharks 5-2 in San Jose (Sharks big 3 shines)

As many of you can recall, I said the Devils have to win at least 3 games on this 5 game trip to feel good about themselves. Well, the task just got much harder as they were picked apart by the Sharks big 3 of Marleau, Thornton and Heatley. Thornton had a hat trick and Marleau and Heatley had a goal each. The Devils got goals from David Clarkson on a lucky bounce of the boards and Andy Greene on the Power Play. There were two fluke goals today of the boards, one that could have turned the game around for the Devils and one that sealed the game for the Sharks. The Devils did what they do best this season so far, play very well in the first 10 minutes and then completely fall apart.

Their 2-7-1 start is there worst since early 1980s when they started 1-9-0 through the first ten games. They were 3-6-1 in 2007-2008, but managed to dig out of it ultimately finishing 4th in the East. I will say one thing though, I am concerned for the Devils, but I have to keep my self-esteem very high and not panic. This start could be the best or worst thing that could happen to this Devils team, they need to just score goals and find secondary scoring like I have been saying for weeks now other wise this will go free falling fast. Marty Brodeur played very well despite giving up 5 and made 34 saves. Nittymaki made 27 saves on 29 shots. The Devils cored their first road power play goal this year, but it still continues to struggle only going 1-5 tonight.

The Devils will no face Anaheim on Friday and Los Angeles on Saturday, so winning both of those is very crucial to them. There is no word if Volchenkov will join the team, but he will not play on Friday in Anaheim. Saturday is a possibility, but Monday in Vancouver is the likely scenario.
