Devils patiently awaiting salary cap cuts

With the preseason now over, Devils GM Lou Lamoriello now has until 3 PM Wednesday Eastern Time to get the team under the $59.4 million dollar salary cap. This will not be easy as he has to decide which players to ship out. Bruce Salvador's injury and placement on LTIR will not be enough, so he will have to trade or send one more player to the minors, but its very likely a trade will better. So, from now on til Wednesday, the Devils players must practice and patiently await the final cuts. It all seems certain that Josefson, Tedenby and Mair have made the team for now, and it is very likely that Mair will sign a contract once the cap space is cleared.

The Toronto Maple Leafs, Colorado Avalanche and Los Angeles Kings have been rumored as the likeliest trade partners with the Devils to help them get under the cap. Toronto has shown interest in Zubrus, Rolston, Langenbrunner or Clarkson. Colorado and Los Angeles like Langenbrunner or Zubrus. Zubrus will be the easiest figure to move, because his contract does not contain a no-trade clause. Rolston's $5.025 million dollar cap hit and no-trade clause will be difficult to move although he has been the number one target for Lou to try to move, so it will be very interesting. Colin White's $3 million dollar cap hit will also be hard, but his advantage of staying is that he is one of the only core defenseman remaining on the Devils, so Lou Lamoriello might be inclined to keep him.

Here is once again the list of possible players that might get traded and teams interested:

Brian Rolston (Tor, LA, Col, Min, Bos, NYI)
David Clarkson (Tor)
Patrik Elias (Tor, Col, LA, Dal)
Jamie Langenbrunner (LA, Dal, Col)
Dainius Zubrus (Tor, LA, Col, NYI)
Travis Zajac (CGY, Van, Edm)
Colin White (Tor, Mon, Ott)
Bryce Salvador, IR (Tor, Col, STL, Dal, LA, NYI)
