Just when you think the Devils struggling defense this young season could not get any worse, it did. Matt Corrente is the latest Devils player to get injured. According to Tom Gulitti and Rich Chere of the Bergen Record and Star Ledger respectively, Corrente suffered a broken hand possibly in the fight against Ryane Clowe of San Jose and no timetable was given for how much he is going to miss. The Devils recalled defenseman Tyler Eckford and forward Alexander Vasyunov from Albany to join the team on the trip. Eckford is likely to play in Anaheim tomorrow since Volchenkov will not play tomorrow like Lamoriello said. Vasyunov might play if MacLean chooses to sit someone.
Corrente getting hurt is a big hot for the Devils struggling defense, but on the bright side Eckford is more of a puck moving defenseman and can play the power play. He appeared in the AHL All Star Game back in 2009, so we will see how he fits in. It is not yet known whether GM Lou Lamoriello or Anton Volchenkov have met up with the team in California, but with the call ups, it seems that Lou could fly out with them and possibly Anton sometime today.

Interestingly Tom Gulitti of the Record spoke with former Devils Left Wing Jay Pandolfo. Pandolfo is currently skating in Massachusetts with ex-Islander Shawn Bates both hoping to get a contract from an NHL team. Pandolfo also believes the Devils will turn things around and that maybe they prefer a strong finish rather than a hot start. The previous two seasons, the Devils had hot starts, but faltered down the stretch and could not get anything done in the playoffs.
