Adam Oates was brought to NJ to do only one things, improve a very disastrous and struggling power play, which has plagued the Devils late last season. But, instead, the power play has gotten worse and is becoming more uneventful each and every game. If Lou Lamoriello is not going to make any radical changes when he evaluates the team sometime between now and Monday's game against Washington, he should start by firing Adam Oates as assistant coach and maybe just leave MacLean and Robinson to do the job.
It seems unlikely that MacLean would be fired, just because it would not be fond of Lou to do so due to the death of Pat Burns, so his job is likely safe for the time being. But, Lou Lamoriello could still fire MacLean if the Devils do indeed continue their epic free fall with no hope or end of ending their slump. It looks like the Devils season has taken a turn for the worse, but like I have mentioned many times, the Devils might need to hit absolute rock bottom and maybe missing the playoffs is not a bad thing.
