Flames acquire Babchuk, Kostopoulos from Hurricanes

The trading in the NHL has began this season as the Calgary Flames have acquired defenseman Anton Babchuk and forward Tom Kostopoulos from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Brett Sutter and defenseman Ian White. Sutter is the cousin of current Hurricanes forward Brandon Sutter and White was involved in the Dion Phaneuf trade last year.

The Flames needed to make a move with their struggles and Babchuk is a spark on any power play. Flames coach Brent Sutter knows Babchuk very well when he was the Devils coach facing Babchuk of the Hurricanes. Babchuk was very lethal against the Devils and should display it next Wednesday in their match-up. It was a good trade for the Flames as they add some scoring to the defense and some grit to the front line.

Now the question becomes, will the Flames trade their captain Jarome Iginla? The LA Kings are a possible destination with their sleuth of prospects, but the best fit could be the Pittsburgh Penguins, which will be bad for the Devils. Crosby and Iginla had chemistry at the Olympics and it might be the medicine center Iginla needs to resurrect his star power. But, we shall see what happens with him.
