The Devils will look to exorcise their demons in Vancouver when they take on the Canucks at Rogers Arena. Vancouver has not been kind to the Devils in recent years as they usually struggle there although they did win there in January 2009. The Canucks have had the Devils number recently as well. However, when these two teams meet, the topic of interest is Marty Brodeur vs Roberto Luongo. It was Luongo, who took over for Marty in Team Canada's gold medal run at the Olympics, so Brodeur will seek revenge for that, but as much as they are rivals, they are also good friends. Brodeur and Luongo grew up close to each other in Montreal.
The Devils will be without Zach Parise tonight and he will remain out for an undetermined period of time. He was to see a doctor today, but the Devils have not released the extent of his injury. Anton Volchenkov continues to skate and there is no word if he will join team in Chicago on Wednesday. Parise's injury means some of the struggling Devils have to step up offensively, much like the team did two years ago in Brodeur's absence. Ilya Kovalchuk is now the face of the franchise with Parise hurt and MacLean believes Kovalchuk should shoot the puck more. Tonight's game is a must win for the Devils since they only have 1 win on this road trip and I said they need to win at least 3 or else it would be a lot more difficult for them to gain confidence.
