Devils aiming to start winning streak in Boston tonight as they go for two in a row, Scott Gordon Fired as Islanders Coach, Is MacLean next?

Things have not gone particularly well for the Devils after they have won a game this season. The trend has recently been a win and 2-3 straight losses, but that will have to stop tonight as they visit the Boston Bruins in Boston. The Devils embark on a 3 game road trip and will visit Boston tonight, Toronto on Thursday and the resilient St. Louis Blues on Saturday night. So, tonight would be a very good start for the Devils to finally win two in a row.

Matt Taormina and Jamie Langenbrunner will not play tonight with lower and upper body injuries respectively. Taormina hurt his foot in practice and Langenbrunner has a sore neck and both will have MRI's to determine the extent of the injuries though both remain hopeful to return on Thursday in Toronto. Matt Corrente will return to the Devils line-up to fill in for Taormina. Olivier Magnan will also play with a sore foot but will wear extra padding. Martin Brodeur and Tim Thomas will be the starting goalies.

Scott Gordon is this years first coaching casualty after being fired by the Islanders due to a 10 game losing streak. Many thought John MacLean would be the first due to the Devils slow start, but it indeed was Scott Gordon. Jack Capuano, the coach of their AHL affiliate in Bridgeport will take over on an interim basis and the assistant coaches will stay on. Now, the question is, who is next? If the Devils continue to struggle and do not put up a winning streak, John MacLean's name will continue to surface and re-surface. For now, Lou Lamoriello insists that he is safe and that Friday nights win at home against Edmonton probably saved his job for now.
