In what might seems as a shock, Brian Rolston went unclaimed on re-entry waivers and will remain with the New Jersey Devils for the time being. He will play likley next week. It seems as if teams thought he was not even worth half his $5.062 million dollar yearly salary. Rolston's contract expires in Summer 2012. Right now the Devils are eligible to trade him and Rolston would be willing to accept a deal to any team if asked to waive his no trade clause. There was rumored interest to claim him, but the danger of keeping him for another year worried those teams.
It also seems as if NHL GM's are unwilling to help the Devils cap situation, because the Kovalchuk saga has somewhat damaged the Devils and Lou Lamoriello's reputation around the league. A trade for Rolston is unlikely now since no team showed interest in claiming him for half salary, so who would take on his full yearly salary. So, the Devils will likely send him through a similar process in the near future this year.
Forward Nick Palmieri was called up by the Devils from Albany and practiced with the team today. There is no word whether he would play tomorrow at 5 PM against the Atlanta Thrashers. In 24 games with Albany this year, Palmieri has 6 goals and 5 assists and a plus 24 rating. Johan Hedberg will start in goal tomorrow night and give struggling Brodeur a rest. The Devils will look to avenge their December 18 7-1 blowout loss to Atlanta tomorrow night. Remember it is a 5 PM ET start time tomorrow, not 7 PM.
