R.I.P 2010-2011 New Jersey Devils: Devils losing streak now at 6 games after 3-1 loss to Rangers

Despite their best effort in their last six games in this losing streak, the Devils fell to the Rangers at Prudential Center 3-1. The Devils outplayed the Rangers and outshot them 44-25, but again only converted one goal. Travis Zajac gave the Devils a 1-0 lead, but Brian Boyle scored seconds later to tie up the game as Marty Brodeur continues to let in soft goals. Michal Rozsival scored late int he 2nd to make it 2-1 Rangers and Brandon Dubinsky added an empty netter.

Henrik Lundqvist continues his mastery of the Devils and it probably would take a bad game by him to lose to the Devils. Or, the Devils themselves have to finally get to him, but based on the way things have been going this year for them, not even an effective shot or puck will go past him. Marty Brodeur seems like he is nearing the end of his storied career as he continues to let in weak goals and tonight was no exception. The Devils will play the Thrashers on Friday at Prudential Center and could see prospect Patrice Cormier, whom they traded in the Kovalchuk deal play for Atlanta.

The Devils have one win in the month of December which was a 3-0 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes two weeks ago. Right now it seems the Devils are on their way to the 1st overall pick in June's entry draft, which might be a good thing for them. It will be a pick that will likely lead the Devils into the next phase of their franchise. A win against Atlanta on Friday could probably salvage December for them.

We should know by noon tomorrow if Brian Rolston has been claimed by any NHL team. Remember, only half of his $5.062 million dollar yearly salary would count against the Devils salary cap until the end of next year if he is claimed. There is rumored interest in claiming him and trading for him if he is unclaimed. There is a small chance he plays for the Devils again this year.
