Devils lose 4th straight after 3-2 defeat in the hands of Senators on controversial no goal

As bad as the Devils season has been this year, it got worse tonight after they could not catch a break on controversial no goal at the end of the game. David Clarkson had what appeared to be the game tying goal with a little over 2 minutes left and what could have been the Devils 3rd power play goal, but the NHL ruled that there was a kicking motion and had the puck touched his stick en route to the net, it would have been a goal. While there was no kicking motion in my view, the latest call just sums up the Devils season which is now at 8-18-2. The Devils are in free fall with no signs of any improvement despite another good but short effort.

Martin Brodeur made 26 saves on 29 shots in the 3-2 loss in his return from injury. Pascal Leclaire made 29 saves on 31 Devils shots. The Devils went 2-3 on the power play, which continues to improve on the road, but its still not enough for them to get out of the funk. Elias and Zubrus scored the Devils goals, while Karlsson, Ruutu, and Michalek for the Senators. This is not the loss the Devils wanted to have with the tough test coming up against the Red Wings tomorrow night. Now the questions about MacLean and the team will continue after the loss as TSN's Darren Dreger was reporting that the losing coach could face major consequences.

Ilya Kovalchuk had a post, but also had 2 assists, so his point total continues to increase. But, again the team in front of him continues to struggle. So, we shall see what happens in the next 48 hours with the team regardless of the result tomorrow against Detroit although a loss would probably seal MacLean's fate as coach and some players will probably be moved. A win might also not mean much especially with Lou not giving his full endorsement of MacLean.
