R.I.P 2010-2011 New Jersey Devils: Kovalchuk continues to rescue Devils as they beat Sharks 2-1 (late post), Parise not expecting contract talks

Sorry for the extremely late delay, but Kovalchuk continued to play hero for the Devils for a 2nd straight night, this time beating the Sharks 2-1. All the scoring came in period 3, but the Devils had to rally from a 1-0 deficit to beat San Jose. With the win, the Devils avenged their loss to them back in late October in San Jose 5-2.

Brian Rolston scored the other Devils goal, while Patrick Marleau scored the lone Sharks goal. Johan Hedberg and Antii Niemi were great as goaltenders for each respective teams. Hedberg stopped 31 of 32 shots.

Though he could be the next captain of the Devils, Zach Parise has not yet been approached about a contract extension. He is slated to become a restricted free agent this summer and will attract offer sheets from many teams. The Devils are absolutely ready to match any offer sheet he signs. If they fail to match, Parise would be worth a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft from the team that signs him to that respective offer sheet.

Parise is currently on LTIR due to a torn meniscus and is expected to return to game action in 4-6 weeks from today or late March-early April. He has a doctors appointment on March 2nd, where he is expected to get the green light to resume skating. He tried to move up his visit to the doctor, but was denied. Contract talks with the face of the Devils franchise will likely happen during the off-season as no side wants to go to arbitration. Parise is priority 1 and 1A.
