NHL Trade Deadline 2011: Leafs trade Versteeg to Flyers for 2011 1st and 3rd round picks

With the NHL Trade Deadline officially less than two weeks away, I will post any breaking trades on my blog.

The Leafs continued their busy trade deadline preparations by trading skilled forward Kris Versteeg to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for their 1st and 3rd round picks in this years Draft. Versteeg has 14 goals and 21 assists, but is a minus 13. He will help the Flyers already deep offensive corps.

It will be a late first round pick for the Leafs though, but at least they get back a first round pick. Had they not signed Kessel in October 2010, they could have had a high first round pick, but the Bruins will again have a high pick this year as they did this past year when they took Tyler Seguin with the #2 overall pick. This trade is good for both teams.

-----

-This past Friday the Leafs traded defenseman Francois Beauchemin to Anaheim for Joffrey Lupul, Jake Gardiner and a conditional draft pick.

-Also, the Senators traded Center Mike Fisher to the Nashville Predators for their first round pick. Fisher is married to Carrie Underwood, a country star based in Nashville.
