Jason Arnott told Lou Lamoriello yesterday it would be a huge gamble to remain with the Devils and ride out this magical run and thus was traded to the Washington Capitals for Center Dave Steckel and a 2012 2nd round pick. Arnott has 13 goals and 11 assists in 62 games with New Jersey and is a -9. In 57 games this year Steckel has 5 goals and 6 assists an id a -3. Arnott will have his chance to play in the playoffs for a cup contender as he wished.
It was relatively slow this year on trade deadline day, maybe it being a Monday had something to do with it, but with the close playoff races, teams decided to play it safe. There was only 16 trades and 30 players moving, 15 down from 31 last year and 55 players moving. So, here are my winners and losers:
Winners
Los Angeles Kings
Vancouver Canucks
Florida Panthers
Phoenix Coyotes
Edmonton Oilers
New Jersey Devils
Washington Capitals
Calgary Flames
Buffalo Sabres
Tampa Bay Lightning
Losers:
Montreal Canadiens
Atlanta Thrashers

St. Louis Blues
Nashville Predators
