Kovalchuk skates with Parise and Zajac on Day 1

Welcome to the world of surprises at Devils camp. Ilya Kovalchuk, traditionally a Left Wing skated at Right Wing with Zach Parise and Travis Zajac at center. This combination could give the Devils a very powerful top line. Jamie Langenbrunner skated with Group B on the line with Patrik Elias and Jason Arnott. Both Elias and Arnott have aske Jamie Langenbrunner to bring his A game on their line. Langenbrunner had a very disappointing end to the 2009-2010 campaign which involved him getting into somewhat of a feud with then coach Jacques Lemaire. Langenbrunner would not discuss the specifics of it, but it was definitely not pretty.

Kovalchuk on the Parise line could be a good thing. He actually enjoyed the experience and is looking forward to seeing where this could lead to. However, this was only Day 1, so there is a long way to go in training camp. The Devils open up the preseason on Tuesday in Philadelphia, facing the Flyers for the first time since their game 5 ouster against them in April. It should be a fight filled game since it is the preseason. Its very likely tryouts Nilson and Mair will play in every preseason game since they are auditioning for roster spots.
