Most of the Devils were happy with the way they played, but not coach Jacques Lemaire. The Devils came out flat, but still managed to defeat the Florida Panthers 5-2 at Prudential Center. It was the Devils 4th straight win.
Ilya Kovalchuk, Patrik Elias, Brian Rolston all scored for the Devils and Jason Arnott had two goals. Shawn Matthias and Marty Reasoner score for the Panthers. Scott Clemmensen and Jakob Markstrom split the goaltending duties for the Panthers and Martin Brodeur made 24 saves on 26 Panther shots.
Nick Palmieri, Vladimir Zharkov and Colin White missed today's game with injuries and Alexander Vasyunov was recalled on emergency basis. Palmieri has an upper body injury and Zharkov is still feeling a little ill. White suffered an undisclosed injury yesterday against Philly and was unable to go today. Salmela filled his spot.
The Devils next go to Detroit against the Red Wings this Wednesday, their last game before the All Star Break. Right now the Devils sit 20 points behind the Thrashers for the 8th spot in the East. However, they are still last in the NHL.
