Well, the Devils were patient at the draft and it paid off. Knowing that if the Oilers selected Ryan Nugent-Hopkins with the first overall pick and Colorado drafting a forward, that Larsson would fall to #4. There was talk that the Devils almost traded the 4th pick to Minnesota for their star defenseman Brent Burns, who ended up being dealt to Colorado.
Larsson will fight for a spot on the Devils this season and definitely gives them options to move a few of their minor league defensemen for more forward depth. He could be their next franchise defenseman since Scott Niedermayer, who was chosen 3rd overall in 1991.
