The Devils had everything playing in their favor outside of their building. Buffalo lost to Pittsburgh and Toronto lost in overtime to the Islanders, but they failed to take advantage and lost to the NHL's worst Senators. Erik Condra scored both of the Senators goals and Patrik Elias scored the lone Devils goal.
The Devils also continue to fail to solve Craig Anderson, who has now beaten them twice this year. Back in October his former Colorado team beat the Devils 3-2 at Prudential Center. He stopped 31 of 32 Devils shots and Marty Brodeur stopped 19 of 21, but both goals were not his fault. The Devils failed to score on two 5 on 3's and that was the turning point of the game other than the fact that they took them lightly.
The Devils remain 8 points out of the 8th and final playoff spot. They next play Friday against Atlanta in Georgia and then have to fly home for the next night against the Islanders on Saturday.
